Prabowo Reminds Farmers to Supply Fertilizer Directly: No Middlemen

26 May 2025

Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has warned against the use of intermediaries in fertilizer. He has requested that fertilizer distribution be carried out directly through Farmers' Group Associations (Gapoktan).

Prabowo initially announced that he would open cooperatives in every village. He stated that 80,000 cooperatives would be established.

"Thank God, we are already feeling the benefits, but we will not stop. This year, we will open 80,000 cooperatives. We will ask each village to immediately establish cooperatives that will be part of a national cooperative network," Prabowo said during a harvest event in Majalengka, West Java, on Monday (April 7, 2025).

Prabowo explained that these cooperatives will be used to provide credit assistance. He also wants each village to have two trucks to help transport the harvest.

"And we will help every village. We will provide credit. We hope each village will have a warehouse, each village will have a cold room to store their harvest, and we will provide credit for each cooperative to own a truck. We hope each village cooperative will have two trucks each, so that in the future, village cooperatives and village farmers will have no harvests that don't reach the market," he said.

Prabowo then warned that there should no longer be many fertilizer middlemen. He wants to ensure fertilizer distribution is solely through the Farmers' Group (Gapoktan).

"Then, fertilizer can be quickly collected from the Gapoktan groups. And there should no longer be too many middlemen, too many middlemen. I agree with the farmer representative who said that if possible, go directly to the Gapoktan. We will try to reach those who haven't reached the market," he added.
